Rail car wastewater is generated from railcar wash facilities from the cleaning of hopper cars and tank cars. The cleaning can create a wastewater stream high in oils and grease, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and surfactants. The wastewater is subject to changes in characteristics and can be complex at times depending on the material being cleaned from the railcar.
Dynatec Systems has designed wastewater systems for these applications that are robust and can handle the variation in characteristics and produce consistently high-quality effluent. The permeate from the membrane systems can be reused in cleaning operations or discharged to sewer.
