May 15, 2006 - Dynatec Systems Inc. has designed and built a reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment system to be used in Ford Motor Company’s (FMC) wastewater treatment facility at the Hermosillo, Mexico auto assembly plant. The RO system purifies wastewater produced during plant assembly and stamping operations.
Recently, when FMC decided to double the plant’s production capacity, it also made a commitment not to increase its water consumption. Using state-of-the-art water treatment technologies, water recycling and reuse, and conservation technologies this goal has been achieved.
The reverse osmosis system designed and built by Dynatec is the final component of the on-site water treatment facility which includes a membrane bioreactor (MBR). The RO system can recycle up to 324,000 gallons for reuse by the plant in its cooling towers, in paint line operations, and for irrigation. The volume of purified water produced for reuse is twice the goal set by Ford and the purified water meets the standards set by Mexico for drinking water. The 76,000 gallons per day of reject, or by-product, from the treatment systems also meets water treatment standards set by Mexico and is discharged to the Hermosillo municipal sewage system.
Reverse osmosis separates soluble contaminants from water. It employs a semi-permeable membrane that allows the fluid being purified to pass through while retaining the contaminants. Reverse osmosis improves the color, taste, and other properties of the water being treated and purified water produced by RO meets the most demanding specifications in water treatment.
Dynatec has worked with Ford on other water treatment projects providing wastewater treatment equipment to plants in Romeo and Dearborn, Michigan; Chicago Heights, Illinois; and Chihuahua, Mexico.
